The friendly King Snakes

We ran into two King snakes on the path at our recent visit at the Ocmulgee Mound (see the post down with Duane and Connie's visit).

We believe these two snakes were mating earlier but we couldn't really ask them what they were doing there together.

They were quite big actually. But friendly. I touched one, quickly, and gently.
Duane picked up the other one. The snake was so scarred he pissed on Duane. Fortunately, Duane put some gloves on first.

Leah is running down the part of the Swamp I love the most. My little heaven, shaded, peaceful, and the birds tend to sing the best around here. This is also the area you'll see deer most often. If you want to, you can just have many happy thoughts here as you walk by in God's nature garden. I miss Debbie not being with us on this day. She was sick and getting better slowly but surely.

The friendly butterfly

Leah loves butterflies. After a little help from Duane, Leah got a butterfly on her.
The butterfly wants to be Leah's friend and was quite unafraid and didn't really want to leave.
She got on Leah's finger, shoulder, nose, and finished her visit on Duane's head.

At the Ocmulgee Swamp

It turned to be a great day for visiting the swamp.

Beside the turtles and snakes, we saw two Red Shouldered Hawks, Great Blue Herons, and the Great White Egrets. We heard the Pileated Woodpeckers a few times but never saw them this time.
The Indigo Buntings were there, singing their hearts out to impress everyone.
As usual, we saw several Red Headed Woodpeckers, Northern Cardinals, and Eastern Phoebes. We also saw many other birds including different Sparrows, Thrushes, Chickadees, and Flycatchers.
Duane and Connie seem to have liked the place with its peaceful walks, especially at the Loop. We encountered two nice King Snakes. I touched one briefly and gently, and Duane picked up the other one gently, then put it back down so he can return to his mating business (the snake, not Duane). They were non-aggressive for the most part.
The sky was beautiful, the birds were singing, the water was flowing happily after the multiple rains we had; but it was hot.

We enjoyed it.

Backyard pictures for summer

The back deck is ready for summer enjoyment.
Debbie made a rock sculpture as a center piece for the backyard.
The bougainvillea plant is now big enough to be planted in the ground.
Birds are frequent visitors.
The backyard is welcoming and waiting for a new summer fun; and we are looking forward to it.

Cactus flowers

These beautiful flowers are coming out the cactus plants. Did you know cactus plants could have such beauty? Is nature trying to teach us a lesson? Humm.

Macon sky

Two airplanes made this cross in the sky by pure accident.
The pilots didn't even know they were playing "sky artists".
A rainbow after the rain.

Another rainbow.

Enjoy!

Visiting James and Melba

(Please, click on the collage for a better viewing.)
It was fun visiting James and Melba last week end. They were great hosts and we enjoyed ourselves. We went on ATV riding on James "mountain" trail. We saw and heard a lot of birds. We also played Rook, James favorite game. Mine too. Melba has beautiful vegetable gardens. You can see part of it in this collage.

We found a very nice place to camp in the Cheaha Mountain. Next time we'll be camping at Cheaha! We went through the mountains on our way back and saw the tornado coming straight at us. Those things come pretty fast! I took some pictures of it. If you look closely, you can see the tornado in the middle picture. Alabama is beautiful!

Birds, birds, birds

A Robin in her nest over her chicks. (You can always click on the pics for a better view).
A Northern Cardinal singing in the tree. He is posing for the picture now. He resumed his repertoire of songs after the shot. He just wanted his picture taken!
An Eastern Bluebird feeding her chicks. The chicks are here below. So cute!
Please, don't ever touch these babies. If you do, the mother will abandon them. Just take the picture from a distance. (Someone opened the door for me and I won't say who.) Just don't be tempted to pick up the cute little chicks. Aren't they adorable?
